So. I’m Back.
Life, interruptions, and picking up the thread again.
Okay.
I’m back.
Awkward wave.
I was “away for a bit.”
That bit turned out to be a month.
My Substack is staring at me like:
“So. Care to explain?”
Seriously though—how did that month go this fast?
There were intense things.
In December, my mother-in-law had surgery on her first eye.
Then this month, she had surgery on eye number two —
while she had pneumonia.
We thought:
This cannot possibly be a good idea.
But older women can be remarkably wise,
and sometimes they calmly decide:
Actually, this can be done.
After that, she became so ill that she had to be admitted urgently,
because her blood values were off.
Which sounds terrifying.
And it was.
But — plot twist — she was allowed to go home the very same day.
Relief doesn’t quite cover it.
There were good things this month.
There were hard things.
And there were many days that were just… life happening.
And now I’m here again,
with the feeling that I should ask something meaningful,
but honestly not knowing what.
Maybe that’s the question.
Or maybe I’ll just say:
Hi. I’m back. The month is over. Shall we pretend this is perfectly normal?
PS. For the record: 3 January photos

I’m thankful your mother-in-law is doing better, Rita. Loving and serving those around us is priceless. We’re glad to have you back, and sometimes, that looks like sitting together and not really saying much. It’s the togetherness that means something.
Hi! Although January seems such a long month, time still seem to march on quickly especially when trying to make a consistent practice of being here! I think I need to write my "I'm back" post" too! :) In the meantime, seeing a piece of your world is always refreshing. I love that lane picture!
